With the play-offs approaching the Final Fours, you could say that the 2011-2012 season is drawing to a close - well thats if you see the glass half empty - at the Pioneers we prefer to see this as the beginning of the 2012-2013 season!
Pioneers are still running training sessions and if you are interested in playing basketball and joining the Pioneers - come down to a session (they are listed under Practices) and talk to a coach who will be able to direct you best. The sooner the start the better - lets face it pre-season starts in August - thats just round the corner!

Men half way to Local League Final

The Pioneers use The London Met League principally for giving U18 players a chance to play "up" against Senior teams - but when games conflict the Men's team play the fixture. This season the Pioneers managed to finish 3rd in the league and made the play-offs! Who would have thunk-it! The first leg of the semi-final was on Sunday against the CIA - we think that stands for Christians in Action, but couldn't figure out why they needed to wear sunglasses on the court.
With the U18's involved in the post-season play-offs, the Men's team are playing the games. Despite the sunglasses there was no disguising the result with Pioneers easily winning 89-67. The second leg is Tuesday with the final on 05 May. Go Pioneers!

U18 Final Fours Forth

For the fourth year in a row the London Greenhouse Pioneers have had a team playing in England Basketball's Final Fours. This year it was the the U18's who made the achievement.
The semi-final game was against Lewisham Thunder who the Pioneers had met in 4 friendly games throughout the season each team having both won 2. So we all knew the game was going to be close and we knew that this was no friendly!
Both team started solidly and by the end of the second quarter Pioneers were leading 26-25. The start of the 3rd quarter saw Lewisham take a 14 point lead, by the end of the 3rd qtr the lead was down to 8 points. During the 4th quarter the Pioneers continued to inch their way back and incredibly with 45 seconds to go Pioneers were leading by 1 point. Lewisham then hit a 3 pointer, and with a couple of unlucky breaks and time ticking by, the Pioneers had to send Lewisham to the free throw line. In the end Pioneers lost 56-61 in a real heartbreaker
Lewisham went on to win the Final. Pioneers played Manchester Magic in the 3rd place play-off and lost by 18 points.

Men Win Local League Play-off

The best way to end a season is with a cup! The Men have been crowned Champions of the London Metropolitan Basketball League Div II with a win over the Met Trident Mavericks (The Met Police). Who knows? In years to come maybe they will look back on this day and point a knowing finger and say "That was when the dynasty started!" The men played a total of 4 post season games before the Final last night at Pimlico Academy. "The team prepared well" said Coach Predrag, "..it was a deserving end for all their hard work". The team can now officially start pre-season training - for next season!
